How Water Quality Affects Coffee Extraction

Many people never think about it, but water is the main ingredient in every cup of coffee, and its quality can make the difference between an exceptional coffee and a mediocre one. Water affects the rate at which the coffee's aromatic compounds are extracted and can alter its final flavor.

Water chemistry is complex and depends on various factors such as pH, hardness (mineral content) and the presence of contaminants. The ideal water for coffee has a balance of minerals that enhances the coffee's flavor without overpowering it.
